Scam Alert

Alert message sent 02/05/2019 10:11:00

Information sent on behalf of Surrey Police

We need your help to stop elderly or vulnerable people being exploited by heartless criminals.

We’ve had two cases recently where a phone fraudster has used the same fake name to target elderly and vulnerable victims.

In both cases the victims were asked by the fraudsters to buy gift cards/vouchers. In one case a crime was prevented by vigilant staff in WH Smith, and in the other, the victim’s suspicions grew as she was repeatedly phoned over a number of days about the promise of a windfall from 20 years of wrongly paid bank charges.

The caller used the fake name Alex Robinson in both cases.

From the comments we get whenever we talk about this sort of thing, we know most of you are savvy to con artists, so we’re asking you to be our voice and have a chat with elderly or vulnerable people you know to make them aware of this. We really want them to stop and think when they’re contacted by someone ‘official’ on the phone.
