Scam warning after couple targeted in South Derbyshire

Alert message sent 26/04/2019 11:19:00

Information sent on behalf of Derbyshire Constabulary

Officers are warning people to be vigilant following a scam reported in the South Derbyshire area.

Yesterday morning, an elderly couple received a phone call from two men claiming to be from a fraud squad at a major high-street bank.

They asked the couple to withdraw a considerable amount of money to then send to an address in London as part of a fraud investigation.

We would like to remind customers from all banks that you will never be asked to withdraw money for any purpose over the phone.

If you receive a call of this nature, you should immediately hang up and contact us on 101, ensuring the line has cleared or by using another phone. You can also report to Action Fraud on 0300 123 2040.

You can also use these numbers if you’ve been the victim of a scam, or are concerned about an ongoing fraud.
