BT Scam Telephone Calls

Alert message sent 21/02/2019 14:10:00

Information sent on behalf of Neighbourhood Watch Scotland

East Dunbartonshire Council Trading Standards Service have received a number of calls from concerned residents within the Milton of Campsie area after receiving telephone calls from scammers purporting to be phoning from BT.

The scammers are using scare tactics to get residents to give over personal details with the threat of cutting off their BT internet services should they fail to provide these details.

Trading Standards advise all residents to be very wary when dealing with incoming calls to their homes from anybody claiming to be from a service provider.

Your utility company will never
- Ask for your 4 digit card PIN or your online banking password
- Ask you to transfer money to a new account for fraud reasons
- Ask for your payment card details over email or live chat
- Send someone to your home to collect your cash, PIN, payment card or cheque book if you are a victim of fraud
You can get further information regarding BT account security from www.bt.com/help/security

If you are concerned about any possible scam telephone calls you can contact Trading Standards for advice on 0300 123 4510
