Bogus Callers across the Black Country

Alert message sent 20/02/2019 09:37:00

Information sent on behalf of West Mids Police

Citizen

To make you aware, we are investigating more distraction burglaries and home invasions across the Black Country. Although Sandwell has had no reported incidences, we are asking our communities to be vigilant at this time, look out for friends, families and neighbours and be aware of suspicious behaviour.

Distraction Burglars, also known as Bogus Officials, will dress as officials (e.g. water, electricity, gas, police) to gain trust and entry to a home.
Remember, if you don't know the caller; ask to see their identity card. Genuine callers won't mind and will be obligated to help you.
Some public utility services operate a password system. Contact your local branch to find out more.
If you're still not sure, ask the caller to come back later. You can then check their story by phoning the organisation or company they claim to represent. Look up the number in your own telephone directory. Don't rely on the telephone number on their card - it may be the number of a criminals partner.
Please ensure all doors, windows are secure and do not let strangers enter the property.

Please be vigilant and help protect your communities.

Call 999 in an emergency.
Call 101 in a non-urgent situation or report online.
Call Crimestoppers, at 0800 555 111
