Scam Telephone Calls - North Cotswolds

Alert message sent 19/02/2019 16:07:00

Information sent on behalf of Gloucestershire Constabulary

Please be aware that we are receiving messages from residents of the North Cotswolds on a regular basis that they are being contacted by their broadband and / or banking companies.

If you receive a telephone call and you are concerned that it may be a scam, PUT THE PHONE DOWN.

If you have access to another telephone, call the organisation back yourself. If you do not have access to another telephone, make sure that you can clearly hear the dialling tone before making the call. It is essential that you can hear the dialling tone.

Never call anyone back on the number that they have provided.

Never give your address over the telephone. If the call is real, they will already have your details.

If you are asked to call your bank or another service, be aware that the scammers may have stayed on the line and when you phone the number from the back of your card, the offenders will have stayed on the line and you will be speaking to the ones who are trying to obtain your money or personal details.

This is why it is so important to hear the dialling tone clearly before calling anyone.

If you are unsure or uncomfortable, hang up. This is NOT being rude.

Many thanks,
Cassie Wilford
