Please help and draw some money from your Bank

Alert message sent 20/01/2019 11:02:00

Information sent on behalf of Northamptonshire Neighbourhood Watch

To Coordinators in East Northants Area

A report has been received that a member received the request in the Title of this message.
The caller explained that he was from the Police and they were investigating that counterfeit bank notes were in circulation and they would appreciate assistance.  The request was for a substantial sum to be withdrawn and if a query arose the money was to purchase a car.
The call was thought to be genuine and the request was carried out.

Then a second call was received to say that a courier would be sent to collect the cash so that the notes could be checked.   There was then a further call to repeat the exercise with a different sum.

These calls were considered to be genuine and the requests a part of a crime investigation.

Neither the Police nor any Banks would make requests of this nature and we ask Coordinators to contact their members who might be vulnerable to emphasise that they should not comply with the requests no matter who is said to be calling.
We have also been made aware that other calls have been received of a similar nature.
