Bogus Caller- Great Barr

Alert message sent 18/01/2019 17:25:00

Information sent on behalf of West Mids Police

Good afternoon,

This week we have had several reports of a male attending houses unannounced, claiming to have completed guttering work and requesting a payment for this.

Please NEVER PAY ANYONE WHO SHOWS UNANNOUNCED AND CLAIMS TO HAVE COMPLETED WORK. THIS IS A SCAM.

If you find yourself in this position, with someone requesting money on your doorstop and you have reasons to believe this person is not genuine, please call 999 immediately.

If yourself or anyone has experienced this recently and has CCTV please call 101, quoting 20SW/14848M/19 and speak to PC Guttridge and PC O'Connor.

Only let someone in if you're expecting them or they're a trusted friend, family member or professional. Don’t feel embarrassed about turning someone away.

Don’t feel pressured. Don’t agree to sign a contract or hand over money at the door. Think about it and talk to someone you trust.

Check their credentials. You should always check someone's credentials - a genuine person won't mind. You can phone the company they represent or check online, but never use contact details they give you.

Don’t share your PIN. Never disclose your PIN number or let anyone persuade you to hand over your bank card or withdraw cash.

And lastly, Take the time to think about any offer, even if it’s genuine. Don’t be embarrassed to say ‘No’ to people or ask them to leave.

Many thanks,

PCSO Harriet Sloane 31371
