HMRC Phone Scam

On 7th March the police received a large number of calls from members of the public stating that they had received phone calls purporting to be from HMRC ( Her Majesty’s Revenue & Customs Dept – Inland Revenue/Income Tax) claiming that they owed a large amount of money and that a warrant for their arrest was in existence.

The calls came from a 0161 0r 020 number.

This type of call is a scam and should not be acted on and no money should be paid no matter what is said.

HMRC will never contact people in this manner.

If you receive such a call please trace the number used by dialling 1471 and  report it to Action Fraud on 0300 123 2040
