Facebook Scam Alert

Alert message sent 08/02/2018 10:56:00

Information sent on behalf of Hampshire Constabulary

Good Morning All,

Police at Andover Police station have recently received reports from local residents that they believe they have been the victim of an online scam after being unable to log into their Facebook accounts.

Residents have received e-mails instructing them to call or text a number to speak to an advisor who will then help them unlock their accounts by downloading an app that allows the advisor to take control of their computer.

Once the advisor has control of the victim's computer they are able to upload viruses and enter accounts without the victim realising. This scam has been reported around other parts of the UK and Police would like to advise Andover residents not to open e-mails they do not recognise.

If you believe you have been targeted by online fraudsters you can report this to Action Fraud at https://www.actionfraud.police.uk/

Thank you for your attention.
