Men committing scams in shops - 564 27 January 2018

Alert message sent 29/01/2018 10:57:00

Information sent on behalf of Devon and Cornwall Police

We have received reports of scams committed in various shops in Cornwall by 3 men on Saturday 27 January 2018.

The men are described as in their 20s in age, around 6 foot in height, olive complexion and dark hair.

The ringing the changes scam has been committed whereby they asked shop staff for cash to be changed for another currency, or another denomination, in a confusing manner and using sleight of hand to gain more cash.

Also, we had a report of a high value phone being purchased, paid for and collected, one man then asked for a refund, which was given, and the phone was not returned.

Please inform staff to be wary of any similar activity and phone 999 if you believe a crime is taking place.
If you have any information please email 101@dc.police.uk, or phone 101 quoting log 564 27 January 2018.
Thank you.
