Courier Fraud

Alert message sent 25/01/2018 15:18:00

Information sent on behalf of Cheshire Constabulary

Dear Residents,
We are currently seeing a trend for Courier Fraud, and attempts, across the county. Fraudsters posing as Detectives from either the Metropolitan  or Greater Manchester Police have been calling elderly people and informing them that their bank account has been compromised and that they need to transfer their funds to a ‘safe’ account. In some cases they have told the victim that a member of staff at their branch is corrupt and that they want the victim to help with a ‘sting’ operation targeted at the member of staff.

In any case the offender will send a taxi to the address which then takes the victim to one or more banks. They may also take them to a bureau de change with instructions to withdraw foreign currency.

The victim will then be taken home by taxi and the money collected by an offender or courier.
If you have elderly relatives, friends or neighbours. Please warn them never to give anyone their bank details and passwords in person, online or over the telephone.
Ryan.
