Information sent on behalf of Cambridgeshire Constabulary

Dear e-coppers

It has been brought to our attention that a banking phone scam has popped up again. These scam artists are claiming to be from your bank, they know details such as your full name, date of birth and address. In this instance they are stating that an overpayment has been made and they want to hand deliver a cheque to reimburse the over payment.

Your bank would never make such a call. Please do not give or confirm any personal information over the phone. They sound very professional on the phone and when combined with them appearing to have your details, they are very convincing. They will also aim to confuse you. To avoid this simply hang up, if you are unsure if the call was genuine or not contact your bank yourself on a trusted number or in person in branch. If it was genuine the bank will have a record of the call and will understand. Please make anyone elderly in your family/neighbourhood aware as they seem to be the most vulnerable when it comes to these types of scams.

 Regards
PCSO Mags Harvey
