Black Friday Cyber Monday and online shopping up to Christmas

Alert message sent 24/11/2017 17:18:00

Information sent on behalf of Leicestershire Police

Avoid falling victim to online scams in the run up to Christmas.

We love Christmas – but it’s also a favourite time of year for scammers, hoping you’ll drop your guard because your head’s in a spin.

Payment to a seller you don’t know by bank transfer is a no-no. Don’t be tempted, however desperate you are to bag that bargain. If it’s a scam, your bank won’t refund the money.

Are those designer trainers, perfume or electrical goods real, or a fake? Don’t buy counterfeits this Christmas as the quality will be poor, they could be dangerous and it puts employees of the genuine manufacturers out of work.

Before you pay for anything online, check that the website is authentic, and that the payment page is secure (the address will begin with ‘https’ – s for secure – and will have a locked padlock symbol)

Hope you all have a safe and happy festive season.
