Attempted fraud from a business in Truro - 482 22 November 2017

Alert message sent 23/11/2017 14:09:00

Information sent on behalf of Devon and Cornwall Police

We have been made aware of an attempted fraud from a business in Truro.

The company received an email from a man stating he was from a business outside of our area and requesting to place an order, which was of high value, and open a new credit account with them.

The company details he gave were legitimate, but as the staff member who received the email was suspicious checks were made which revealed the company details given were for a company closing down and an order had not been placed by them and did not know a man with the name given in the email.

Please be wary of this type of scam. Also in previous scams it has been requested that the order is delivered to an address which has turned out to be a warehouse.

If you have any information or concerns please contact action fraud by phoning 0300 123 2040.

Or contact us by emailing 101@dc.police.uk quoting log 482 22 November 2017.

Further advice can also be found on the Devon and Cornwall Police website: www.devon-cornwall.police.uk/

Thank you.
