Cold caller awareness

Alert message sent 31/10/2017 14:07:00

Information sent on behalf of Hampshire Constabulary

Hello Citizen

We are asking Fareham residents to remain vigilant after Police have received reports of varying cold callers in the Fareham area on 30th October 2017.

Firstly, we have received a report of an unknown male who has attended an address in PORTCHESTER requesting to read the resident's meter. Once inside he has begun asking for personal details to check their energy tariffs. When this information has been refused, the male has left without warning.

The male was described as a white male in his 50s with a London accent and wearing a black fleece with a yellow logo.

We have also received a report of a male knocking doors in the WARSASH area enquiring whether residents have any unwanted gold/ jewellery to sell. This male has been refused at the door.

This male is described as a white male approximately 45 years of age, 5ft 6, with a "basin-cut" hairstyle and a tan jacket.

Neither of the above males had any form of ID.

Please can we ask all Fareham residents to be mindful when dealing with doorstep callers. Never allow anybody into your property if they cannot prove to you who they are with identification. If necessary, contact the company who they claim to work for in order to verify their identity. Please can we also ask that residents be aware if you have elderly/ vulnerable neighbours who may also be targeted.

Never disclose personal details, or details of any valuables you have in your home to a cold caller.

If you feel that you have witnessed any suspicious activity, or have had anyone suspicious at your door, please do not hesitate to contact Police on 101.
