Crime Update Friday 6th October 2017 - Ascot

Alert message sent 06/10/2017 15:14:00

Information sent on behalf of Thames Valley Police

This message is dated Friday 7th October 2017 for Ascot.

I have received this request from PC Paul Stott from our Problem Solving Team

Hi Jeff,

We have carried out Community Consultations across Ascot, to establish the concerns of the community and found out that the entire community shared the following concerns.

We were asked by the community, to tackle the issue of speeding / volume of traffic along the A30, London Road, Sunningdale, while diversions of traffic were in place while the M3 was closed.

We organised Multi-Agency meetings and RBWM was tasked with completing speed surveys in the area.  They placed ‘sound lowering tarmac’ at the location, adding road markings to lower the speed of passing traffic.  Often the noise of passing traffic gives an unreal impression that cars were speeding.

We enquired about lowering the posted speed limit at the location, but due to low nature of reported traffic collisions, the threshold for a speed reduction was not reached.  We have though, completed speed enforcement as well as conducting high visibility patrols in the area.

If anyone feels we need to do more, please let me know.

Thank you

PC 6678 Paul Stott

This went out to Maidenhead today, but contains some useful advice:

6/10  Friday 2 a.m. / 7 a.m.  Sheephouse Road.  Burglary.  ENTRY VIA BACK DOOR WHICH HAD BEEN LEFT UNLOCKED - handbag and contents stolen.  Our Opportunist Thieves are out and about 24 - 7.  They walk along rows of parked cars trying car door handles and if a car is left unlocked, open the door and search the car for loose change, sunglasses - anything worth stealing.  While walking around, if they see a house window left open, they will climb in and take whatever is to hand.  These types of burglaries are never ‘targeted’, the victims have not been singled out, watched or chosen for some reason, it is purely random, because a thief saw an opportunity.  THESE TYPES OF CRIMES ARE COMPLETELY PREVENTABLE, IT NEEDLESSLY CREATES VICITMS OF CRIME, WHO ARE OFTEN TRAUMATISED FOR MONTHS, BY WHAT HAS HAPPENED.

DON’T LET IT BE YOU

Report anyone suspicious, walking around in the early hours particularly, to the police on the 101 number - you will never be wasting our time.  It may be entirely above board and a quick word with a police officer may in fact help them.  It may be someone up to no good and you could prevent someone being traumatised as a victim of a car break-in, or worse a burglary.

DON’T THINK ABOUT IT - DO IT !

There was also a car entered by unknown means in Maidenhead and valuable golf clubs stolen from the boot - it is still happening !!!

CRIME:

ASCOT:

ascotnhpt@thamesvalley.pnn.police.uk

SUNNINGDALE:

NO CRIME TO REPORT.

SUNNINGHILL:

3/10 - 4/10  Tuesday 9 a.m. / Wednesday 9 a.m.  Elizabeth Gardens. Attempted Garage break, in a garage block.  Thieves have removed some of the bricks around the lock area and reached in to open the door.  Nothing appears to have been taken and it is not sure, entry was actually gained.

ASCOT & SOUTH ASCOT:

NO CRIME TO REPORT.

NORTH ASCOT:

NO CRIME TO REPORT.

Eyes and Ears..........and Brain.

FIRST a warning from Nicholas:

Hi Jeff,

Something which I think people should know.

Last night at about 4.50 pm I had a phone call from BT.  They asked to speak to the account holder, in reference to charges.

Once I engaged in conversation with this gentleman for about 10 mins and him going through ALL of my personal details, from my BT account.

He then announced that he was from a company called ‘TRUE TELECOM’.

He then said that ALL BT billing, was being transferred to them as BT had now split into 2 companies.

He then went on about how much he could save me half line rental, half internet and half costs of phone calls.

He wanted then to fill out a mandate and ask for my Bank Sort Code and Account number.  At this point I refused to go further.  He was then very persistent that without this NON SENSITIVE information he couldn't offer me any offers.

I IMMEDIATELY TERMINATED the call !!!!!!!!!!

My main concern was that this gentleman, knew EVERY DETAIL of my BT account, my BT account number, address, mobile number, my house number  and my wife's business .

I have spoken to BT --who know nothing about this company taking over their accounts, OFFCOM and the Information Commissioners Office (ICO.org.uk ) and have left complaints with both of them.

Those gentleman seem very good at their job and as usual it’s just a con to gain your confidence and hand over your bank details.

CAN YOU WARN EVERYONE PLEASE

Nicholas

As I have reported in the past, the TalkTalk database has been hacked several times and scammers therefore hold full personal details of all their customers and can appear much more legitimate.  If someone cold calls and asks for a payment from your account, very few people will hand over bank details.  If they say your router is malfunctioning, they want to send you a new one and ----put compensation cash into your account - people will hand over the details !

BE ON YOUR GUARD FROM THESE CALLS.  ALWAYS SAY YOU WILL CALL THEM BACK TO VERIFY THE INFORMATION AND THEN GET THE NUMBER YOURSELF - NEVER USE A PHONE NUMBER THEY GIVE YOU !
