road issues

Alert message sent 06/10/2017 09:58:00

Information sent on behalf of Dorset Alert

This message is to advise farmers, contractors and land owners of some recent complaints to Police, to prevent further reports.

There have been some complaints to Police recently of mud on the road, on one occasion leading to an incident.  During times of farming operations that mean vehicles bring mud onto the highway, it is the responsibility of the land owner to ensure the road is put back to it's original state (especially at this time of year).  If there are contractors or tenant farmers conducting  the operations the land owner should make prior arrangements as to who will clean any mess up.  Whilst Police prosecution may be minimal, any civil claims made may result in huge loss to business.  For further advice, please contact your public liability insurers.

Also can I advise , particularly in busy times, for anyone driving on the highway to consider their manner of driving.  We have had complaints of tractor drivers not slowing for pedestrians and horse riders, leading to a horse rider coming off their horse.  There are powers Police can use if anyone's manner of driving causes alarm, distress or annoyance to members of public, which could result in vehicles being seized in extreme cases.  For further information or advice, please contact your local neighbourhood officer.
