Information sent on behalf of Cambridgeshire Constabulary

Dear NHW co-ordinators,

Please could you pass a message out to your members.

There has been a reported increase in Distraction Burglaries, Rogue Trading and Scam incidents across Cambridgeshire and surrounding counties. We had seen a significant decrease in these types of crimes over the past few years unfortunately this appears to be changing.

Could I ask you to remind your members about rogue trading and distraction burglaries, and the impact these crimes have on the local communities.
Unfortunately the elderly and vulnerable are mainly being targeted although we have also seen younger persons being distracted in the street near to their home address's lost dog, ball in garden, issues with water further down the street.

Reminder:_
Your utility provider is the company you pay your bill to e.g. Anglian Water! (Electric, Gas and Water Boards no longer exist!). Ensure you have a list of your providers beside phone, always call the number on your list. (You can even set PASSWORDS on your accounts).
Always check ID of persons attending even if it's persons you are expecting.
Don't employ persons knocking on your door to do work tree's, driveway etc. If you need work completing please use a reputable company, recommendation from friend or family or contact trading standards BUY WITH CONFIDENCE!.
Ensure rear/side doors and windows are locked when answering door.
NOT SURE DON'T OPEN THE DOOR!

Many thanks Julie Bailey
Crime Prevention and Community Safety Officer Fenland.
