Information sent on behalf of Dorset Alert

Please be aware and share that a Purbeck resident was very lucky last night after vigilant staff at a Tesco store in Poole stopped them becoming the victim of the HMRC scam.

On this occasion the resident was contacted by phone and bombarded with information about being in debt to the HMRC and had to pay £1397. If they did not comply then their driving licence would be revoked, bank accounts shut down and their car seized to pay the debt.

The victim was then told to go to Tesco and purchase iTunes vouchers to the sum of £1400 and a courier would collect them.

The victim was in their 60's and was told to have their phone on constantly from start to finish over 1.5hrs.

Staff at Tesco were not comfortable with the situation and called Police.

Please be aware and advise your friends and family. Anyone can be the victim of a scam.
