Information sent on behalf of Cumbria County Council

Cumbria Trading Standards are warning residents in the South Lakes area of the County to be on their guard, after local residents have reported that a company is distributing flyers door to door, offering roofing services.
Consumers should be extremely cautious when approached by any cold callers offering to conduct work on their property.  These types of callers often use persuasive tactics such as free surveys and the offer of grants to get people to agree to have work carried out, often charging high prices for poor quality work and goods.
In most cases traders who call at your home should give a cooling off period which gives 14 days in which to cancel (there are some exceptions).  Trading Standards advice is to always say ‘NO’ to any cold callers, shop around for quotes, check to see if grants are available and consider using a local trader who has been recommended by others.
For advice on such issues or to report an incident call the Citizens Advice Consumer Helpline on 03454 04 05 06 or visit or you can contact the Police on 101.
