Alert message sent 05/01/2017 15:29:00

Information sent on behalf of Devon and Cornwall Police

Please be aware of the following scam. At approximately 1100hrs on 5th January 2017 a Helston resident received a call from persons identifying themselves as operators from BT/Open Reach. The resident was convinced that the persons were genuine and they stated they required information relating to her email, facebook and bank accounts in order to complete a demonstration to show how fraudsters were attempting to remove money from customers’ accounts.  Due to the professional manner and apparent knowledge of the operators, the person went along with their wishes and they gained access to the accounts before the call ended. Please do wary. If you receive such a call please do not provide any personal details.
