Weekly Policing Update for the Somersham Area

Alert message sent 05/04/2016 12:57:00

Information sent on behalf of Cambridgeshire Constabulary

Good Afternoon, Somersham Members -

You will be very happy to know that there have been no offences or incidents that affect your community reported to police during the period 29th March to 4th April.

However, I would like to mention an instance of telephone fraud in which an elderly Ramsey lady was the victim, reported to police this week. The lady had been persuaded to transfer a large amount of money from her bank account to that of the fraudster. The caller was very plausable, told the lady that her bank account had been compromised, and gave her instructions to withdraw her money and send it to a false account. He also told her not to contact her bank to discuss this as bank staff were themselves suspects.

Please always be aware of the many ways in which fraudsters can try to take advantage of you. Police advice on fraud can be found on the Cambridgeshire Constabulary website and also on the website of Action Fraud, the UK's national fraud and cyber-crime reporting centre - .

As always, if you have information relating to any offence, or are concerned about any suspicious activities, please contact police by using the '101' telephone number. Alternatively, you can use 'Crimestoppers' to make a report anonymously by calling 0800 555 111 or by using their on-line contact form. In an emergency, or if you witness a crime in progress, always use '999'.

Best wishes,

Chris Shaw, PSV
